Tickets for Freedom Concert at Turner Sims

or by Telephone from 023 8073 3653

Please don’t miss the opportunity to come and hear Southampton Choral Society performing Ian Schofield’s masterpiece entitled “Freedom” on 2 July at Turner Sims Concert Hall, University of Southampton.

“Freedom”, in all its dramatic glory, tells of the abolition of slavery in the British Empire in the 17th century, with text taken directly from the Court proceedings of that time.   The story consists of five legal incidents and graphically describes the plight of some of the slaves and how they were treated.   Rising opera star, Joseph Padfield, will be singing the part of the Judge, Lord Mansfield.

Musically scored in the most brilliant colours, this piece is electrifying, deeply emotional, and both eloquent and heart wrenching.   With harmonies and rhythms which stir the soul, contrasting lively melodies with stark interludes, “Freedom“ will touch both performers and audience alike.

In complete contrast, also on the programme is Bob Chilcott’s  delightful  reverent but swinging prayer, “A Little Jazz Mass”.

Tickets are available from the Turner Sims Box Office, telephone 023 8059 5151, in person, open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m.to 5 p.m., or on line at www.turnersims.co.uk
